Do current Subclass 457 visa holders need to meet these requirements?
Current visa holders will not be required to demonstrate their English skills while on their current visa (unless required by licensing or registration).
Current visa holders who apply for a further Subclass 457–Business (Long Stay) visa after 14 April 2009 will need to meet the new English language requirement of IELTS 5, unless they are in an exempted person category described above.
Applicants that do not meet the English language requirement will not meet the criteria to be granted a further Subclass 457–Business (Long Stay) visa and will be required to make arrangements to depart Australia or apply for another visa that is appropriate to their continued stay in Australia.
Frequently Asked Questions About English Language Requirements
The revised English language requirement of an average score of International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 5, across the four test components, takes effect from 14 April 2009. This requirement applies to people making a Subclass 457 application on or after 14 April 2009, for the first time, against nominated occupations within ASCO major group 4 and those applying as chefs or head chefs (ASCO 3322-11 or 3322-01).
The revised requirements apply to current Subclass 457 holders only where a subsequent application is made for a Subclass 457 visa seeking a visa stay period extending beyond the period of their current visa

Hi, i am 4 months in Australia and had my skills assest . When I did my 457 visa they required iels test which the agent managed to bypass. I want to do my pr now and will I be able to bypass this again.

Hi I m knot I have already got job offer from the resort in Australia but firstly they ask me to test Ielts test that the reason why I want to know what the scores for apply my career (cookery chef) for example if the immigration need score level 5 but I get score 4 Can I apply 457 visa or not thnak you.

Hi, my husband is a chef and we are having 457 visa.
his visa has been approved on September 7,2009 and valid until September 2013. We need to know exactly what bandscore he needs to get in IELTS test? as before he came here the agency requirements in IELTS bandscore is 4.5. then suddenly asking him for a 5?
We are not sure when or which months they lodge his papers Feb or March 2009.

My 457 is coming to an end at the end of the year. I have been in OZ for 4 years. I am in the same company that sponsored me initially. Am I able to extend my period of stay and if so, for how long? What forms do I need to fill in and what is the cost?

I applied 496 visa in 2007 on 31 August from Bangladesh.I have already sent all documents,including police clearance and medical certificate me and my wife.
